Prostate Enlargement

پروسٹیٹ کا بڑھ جانا

Benign prostatic enlargement — treated before it reaches the operating table.

Many patients avoid an operation

This is one of the conditions where treatment often succeeds without surgery. Every case differs, though — and if an operation is genuinely the right course, you will be told so plainly rather than kept on treatment.

About this condition

Benign prostatic enlargement affects most men with age and does not always need an operation. Treatment addresses the weak stream, straining, dribbling and repeated night-time waking. Where symptoms are mild to moderate and there is no retention, many men are managed without surgery — but a raised PSA or complete retention changes that.

Important

Complete inability to pass urine is an emergency requiring catheterisation. A raised PSA needs urological assessment to exclude cancer.

Symptoms we see

  • Weak or interrupted urinary stream
  • Straining to start passing urine
  • Dribbling at the end
  • Waking several times at night
  • Feeling of incomplete emptying
  • Sudden urgency

Not every patient has every symptom — and the combination present is precisely what determines the remedy.
