About this condition
Fungal infection is on the clinic’s printed condition list and is endemic in Pakistan’s humid months. The problem is rarely the first infection but the relapse — often driven by steroid-containing creams sold over the counter, which clear the rash briefly and then make it far worse and far harder to treat.
Important
Avoid combination creams containing steroids for fungal rashes. They give quick relief, then make the infection far more extensive and much harder to clear.
Symptoms we see
- Itchy ring-shaped patches
- Spreading edge with central clearing
- Cracking between the toes
- Thick, discoloured, crumbling nails
- Worse in heat and sweating
- Returns after creams are stopped
Not every patient has every symptom — and the combination present is precisely what determines the remedy.
